In today's lesson we did different lip colours on a model's lips. I first did a nude lip, which I didn't feel I needed a lip liner for. I then did a red lip, which is my favourite colour to wear personally, and I felt I needed to use a lip liner to create the shape first. When I wear a red lip, I either like to match my lip liner exactly to the lipstick or I use a slightly darker one to give the lips more dimension; here I used a lip liner the same colour as the lipstick to give a bright red look.

I used a liquid lipstick for the dark burgundy colour: I find it easier to apply a liquid lipstick because there is a small doe foot applicator which gives your precision and always keeps it's shape. I also find that the liquid lipstick doesn't drag as much, making it easier to create a smooth line. However I did find the darkest lip the most difficult because I found it the least forgiving. My model has a slightly uneven top lip which meant that I had to do some correctional work, as well as keeping in the lines! I found that if I made the smallest mistake it was clearly visible which was frustrating because when I tried to correct it I just made it worse! I will need to practice doing dark lips on different lip shapes until I am comfortable with it.

I was inspired by Prada's 2016 SS16 gold lip in Milan Fashion Week. Metallics is a big predicted 2016 spring/summer trend; however most brands put it on the eyes or cheeks. Prada gave their girls a metallic gold lip which definitely turned some heads! It isn't the most flattering colour, however I wanted to experiment with this unusual colour on my model. I didn't have any lip pencils to match, so I went straight in with a gold metallic supra colour with a lip brush. I didn't worry about making it too precise, but I actually ended up really liking it, especially against my more tanned model.
